The Name Post!

The Post y'all crave once a year! It's finally here!

For those of you that have followed my blog for the last year or more, know that each year I write about the trending names I get for my students each year.
Last year I wrote all about the crazy, over done, super unique, names I was encountering at my school.  You can re-read that post HERE

This year, here's the list:

Clearly this year's theme or trend is with parents having to have the "LYNN" part after a name or the "Leigh" sound after a name. Hailee, Kayleigh
Kaitlynn, Tessalynn, Jessilyn, Taryn, Aiden, Jaden. My advice to those of you that are knocked up and expecting, please don't name your kid one of these way to trending names lol. Your kid will thank you when they are older! Trust me!

I don't have to many "Boy" names that stand out this year. I have a TON of Bens, Angels, Brian and Ryans.

Any shockers to you readers?
I could write a 10 page paper of kids names I've taught over the last eight years.

Shit's ridiculous!!!!

  1. I for one, am one of those parents that have refused to name my child a popular name. I'm not into it at all. Though there are a lot of pretty names out there, but every single person I have known in the past two years who had girls all named their child Sophia. My daughter's name is not common but not off the wall insane either and I like that. Growing up, I had about three other kids in my class with my name and hated it.

  3. I am not a fan of "popular" names. I've had my baby name list for years but sadly our top choices are becoming more common. Even though I don't like popular names, I am also not a fan of CRAZY names or names with crazy spelling!!

  4. So funny! I have only 18 kids in my class and 2 Joshuas and 2 Emmas! The craziest name I've ever come across is La-A (pronounced "La-DASH-a) No joke!

  5. AHhh! Please say "Taryn" is not an up and coming trendy name! I would die after nearly 30 years if my name became cliche!

  6. Oh my gosh! This is the first name post that I've been around for and just read the old one. I cannot get over these names!! Out of the posts, Hennessy is still blowing my mind, and one of the last names from the other post that I can't even begin to remember to spell. Poor kids! They are going to name their kids Joe and Jane type names after going through life with their names! Haha

  7. OMG I am with you on the "lynn" and "leigh" trend. I come across some weird ones in my job, too. Let's see if I can remember some...

    Iesiah is one, pronounced "Eye-eee-shah"

I literally had girls named Afrika, Chyna, and Indonesia. UH. What??

We also have one name Laeh, not LEAH, L-A-E-H, pronounced like Princess Leia from Star Wars. Is that normal and I'd just never heard of it?

I think double E's are in, too. I have a Shaylee, Baylee, Marlee, Karlee, Keilee, etc.

One of the absolute weirdest is: Kelehear. Try to pronounce that one. "Ka-lee-er" Yea. ok.

I'm sure there have been more, I work in pageants so we get a LOT of girls! lol

  9. @Anna I have two students that I teach that are sisters named Paris and China! To their credit, they are super sweet, well behaved, and their mom is very in tune with them at school! Why she named them after a city and a country I'll never know lol to each their own!

  13. Names and the beginning of the school year ... I have around 200 new kids every year and I'm so bad at remembering names!
But here in Belgium those names you state aren't used ... thank God :)

  14. I dont get what parents think when they name their kids. I mean really? Must you go with the trend? IF I have kids and thats a HUGE if I refuse to go with a "in" name!

  15. I love this post! In North Carolina, I hear of alot of Braydens or Braelynns, I'm so tired of hearing it! I'll definitely be staying away from "popular" names when the time comes!

  16. The fact that someone named their child Devlin has me rolling with laughter. Have you ever seen "Just Go With It" with Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston? If you have you know why I'm laughing! I feel sorry for that poor child. :(

  17. That sucks because Isabella has always been my favorite name since I was little. Now I'm sad everyone took my name! :(

  18. I LOVE it when you do this post... However most of these seem "semi" normal compared to last year -- boo ;(
I'm with you though- these names need to stop!

  20. lol.

im a teacher... and when i found out i was pregnant with my second, my husband demanded the name rights {since after all the older sister... her name... totally me}.

he choose three... and narrowed it down to two... decided when we saw him he would know which name was best. i was rooting for the more unique, traditional name...

well i lost. my sons name is braeden. yep. completely popular for the era he was born in.

i kept trying to tell him that names say alot about a persons personality... and that every single braeden i ever had in a class was a little stink. he didnt buy into that. my son.. little stink.

i wrote a blog post a while back about it http://eandnreyes.blogspot.com/2011/09/name-game.html

oh.. my daughter... her name is amira {coincidently means princess} and she is.

  22. Ha! That's awesome! And I dont know how I feel about the "Lynns" after the name. That's always been a trend here in OK, I think. Not really a fan. Dah-las made me laugh. Wow. *sigh*

  23. When picking out a name for our child, I decided I hated the Lynn (or any variation) at the end of a name. We named our baby Aubria. I've never met another Aubria.

  24. SO funny that today I came into work today after reading this post and had to talk on the phone with a girl named LOVE. L-O-V-E, LOVE. That was her first name. I about fell out of my chair.

  25. Should have caught up on all your posts before my last comment about names! :-X

  26. So tame this year! I was expecting more of the CRAZY names from last year like Xochilt and Xoixa. And there are SO many Sophias and Jacksons and Aidens. Why are people still using these names?!

  27. This is awesome. I work at a pediatrician's office so I see the same names over and over again with our newborns! The top ones now are Cora, Molly and Selah. I have more than one of each of those at the same doctors office and all under a year old!

  28. I have lots of "apostraphe'd" names like Ga'Nya, Ba'Nyah, D'Marcus, Ty'Quionne...and I have 4 kids named Avion and 3 Mikaylas...think my two oddest names are Simbiatu, and Fiyfilou :)

  29. love this post and all the comments! i agree, to each their own, but some names just kill me. I love lynn, but only as a middle name and not as a tag along to a first name. my hubs and i have names chosen already (yep, we're that couple) and i think that 2 of them may become too popular and i'll hate it if it does, but i don't think we'll change our minds bc they're family names.

  30. I named my daughter Emalyn (shortened for Emma Lynn) ... She's 5 now but I didnt want to name her Emma because I felt like there are so many! So I tagged on my middle name and just shorted everything to Emalyn. And she wont answer anyone who calls her Emma, because well thats not her name.
